Course Requirements
Students should come to class prepared with appropriate materials (homework, supplies). Students will often work together on projects and other assignments. Therefore, exceptional behavior, patience and cooperation are mandatory for successful learning in the classroom. The foundation of this course is project-based. Students will be given time during class to work on major projects, but should expect to dedicate additional time at home for project completion.
Classwork & Homework
Information will be presented in a variety of ways. Students will be taught through whole-class lessons, small group projects, and activities, as well as individual projects and assignments. In addition, students may participate in audiovisual demonstrations, discussions, presentations, and research projects.
Homework may be assigned Mondays through Thursdays. Even if written assignments are not given, reviewing current material or previously assigned material is expected.
Makeup Work Policy
You are responsible for obtaining all assignments and notes when you are absent! Assignments missed will be located in the absent bin, but you must remember to pick these up upon returning to class. Please refer to the class website for notes and daily assignments.
Late Work Policy
Late assignments will be penalized at a rate of 5 points off per day until the assignment is returned to the teacher. Late work will not be accepted after the end of the grading period.
Behavior Policy
All of The School for Creative Studies policies that are detailed in the student handbook will be upheld in my classroom. Students are expected to treat all teachers, students, and materials with respect. Parents/Guardians will be notified if students are not adhering to behavior policies.
I have reviewed Ms. Walker’s 6th grade social studies syllabus and I realize that my student is held responsible for the contents within.
